- Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation
Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a form of neuro-stimulation that uses constant, low current delivered directly to the brain area of interest via small electrodes. There are two types of stimulation with tDCS: anode and cathode stimulation. Anode stimulation acts to excite neuronal activity, while cathode stimulation inhibits or reduces neuronal activity. Tests on healthy adults demonstrated that tDCS could increase cognitive performance on a variety of tasks, depending on the area of the brain being stimulated.
